Representation, refers to the process of constructing images of different people, places and ideas in films.
Stereotypes of people;
  • Gender; Men vs Women
  • Social Class
  • Social groups; C.H.A.V.S vs Standard
  • Ethnicity- nationallity, American people = fat and stupid
  • British people = snobby and posh

Message and values/ideology; refers to the way messages and values are communicating to the film audience.

Genre;
refers to the process of classyfying films as being one type or another by audiences and institutions. Generic codes and conventions are employed in the constructions of films, enabling the audience to label and categorise.
