From five songs we came to a conclusion to
do the song Startstrukk by Kate Perry. We chose this song because it’s humorous
and interesting to watch.
At first we decided that everyone would
have equal input so that everyone gets a chance to grow his or her knowledge on
different roles. However on the filming day only two people out the 4 went to
town to film, sadly I was busy with my family. In the music video we noticed that the location was a garden with a
water fountain and therefore we decided to set our location in Queens garden,
which has a water fountain.
Natasha took more of the lead to organize
the group; she made a group conversation on Facebook so that everyone who is
participating is aware of what’s happening. We needed 9 girls and 2 boys but we
only managed to get 8 so we had to use one girl twice. ‘Tasha’s and Danny’s
friends kindly volunteered to take part and the filming took place on the
Saturday 14 June.
In the Mise-en-scene the girls apart from
Katy Perry didn’t wear the similar costumes to the girls in video but wore
causal clothing. However Katy, the boys and the blind guy looked quite similar.
The blind guy wore black glasses to make it obvious he’s blind whilst Katy wore
a black dress and the two boys wore a suit at the end. The male who is featured
in the original video has mid long hair so Edward who played his role wore a
wig, to look similar and so that the audience can easily identify the two boys.
The editing process took 1 week, we’ve all
had a chance to edit but Natasha has done the challenging parts, as the
original video is very fast. We all gave ideas of how a shot could be edited
and then progressed from there. I believe that this song gave us a good insight
of editing and Final Cut Pro as it was a very fast song we was trying to be
precise as possible with the 1 second shots to match the original sound track
and video.
In the Cinematography Danny brought his own
camera and during the making Natasha and Danny took turns. Shots such as close up, long shots, establishing
shot and low angles were used.
Overall I enjoyed the idea of making a
music video and the editing process really got me engaged. We noticed that we
took several shots of each action but the lip sync weren’t so accurate.
